He scored against Ganesh Kumar of Ramakrishna College in the final round to win the honour. Ganesh Kumar was placed runner up. 3rd place was jointly shared by Suraj Prabhu and Kiran A, both from Canara Boys High School. Krupa Jain of SVS, Bantwal won the Best Girl prize. Chisel Pais, Ladyhill english medium school was placed 2nd. Nearly hundred players had taken part in the event amidst the heavy rain. The event was organised under the auspices of D.K District Administration.
Earlier the event was inaugurated by Sri Balakrishna, RTO Officer, Chitradurga. Smt Archana Nayak, Smt Jyothi Rao and Sri Deric Pinto were also present on the occasion.
Prizes were distributed by Sri Ganesh Rao, Chairman, Karavali Group of Colleges; D.K Deputy Commissioner Sri Maheshwara Rao; Smt Pragna Maheshwara Rao; Sri Anand Shetty, President, Mangalore Press Club; Smt Chaya Kamath, Entrepreneur.
Sri Maheshwara Rao congratulated the winners and briefed future plans about developing 'Mini Chess Park' with Permanent Chess structures. Sri Ganesh Rao, in his address praised the efforts of the Chess Park which is first of its kind in India. Tournament coordinators Sri Deric Pinto and Sri Srinivas Nayak Indaje were also present on the dais.
